Training & Education

To stimulate new talent and high level documentary production, IDFAcademy organizes workshops and training programs for both filmmakers and producers.

IDFAcademy Summer School


A tailor-made training program which offers emerging talent an opportunity to strengthen their documentary projects.
Entry for the 2014 edition, which  will take place June 30-July 5, is now open; the deadline for application is April 1.
 

IDFAcademy during the festival


During IDFA, the IDFAcademy offers an intensive four-day training program for emerging filmmakers and producers from EU countries, giving them the opportunity to meet a esteemed documentary professionals who share their knowledge of the industry.

Two Dutch Workshops


Every year, IDFAcademy organizes two workshops for DUtch-speaking participants in cooperation with the Dutch Cultural Media Fund. In the seven-month IDFA-Mediafonds Workshop and the six-month Kids & Docs Workshop, participants develop a plan for a short documentary.

Markets & Funding

Alongside the festival, two documentary markets take place during IDFA: Docs for Sale and the IDFA Forum. The IDFA Bertha Fund stimulates the documentary climate in developing countries.
 
In memory of Michael Glawogger April 24, 2014 | With great sadness, IDFA learned of the tragic death of Michael Glawogger at the age of 54 earlier this week. The Austrian director died of malaria at the age of 54 while filming in Liberia, Die Presse reports.
Call for Entry: IDFA Bertha Fund April 22, 2014 | The IDFA Bertha Fund, which supports documentary filmmakers in and from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe, has announced its second and last selection round for 2014. The deadline for submisison is May 15.
IDFA Bertha Fund supports ten new projects April 1, 2014 | The IDFA Bertha Fund has concluded its February selection round of 2014 by choosing ten documentary projects from countries like Mozambique, Venezuela, India and Kyrgyzstan.
IDFAcademy Summer School announces first tutors March 24, 2014 | Director Leonard Retel Helmrich, editor Jesper Osmund and IKON commissioning editor Margje de Koning will be among the tutors for the seventh IDFAcademy Summer School.
