NEXT DEADLINE: 15 January 2011
The Jan Vrijman Fund is looking for creative documentaries and documentary events from non-Western countries. It is a prerequisite that the director has the nationality of a developing country and lives in and works in a developing country, as defined on the DAC list.
Upcoming Selection Round
The next deadline to submit a project is 15 january 2011. To apply you must fill out an entryform and send us all the necessary documents for your project. As from October 2010 you can find the new selection criteria, the new regulations and what documents to send depending on the category that you are applying for on this page. The entryform for the January deadline will be available at MyIDFA from the 15th of December 2010.

Categories
1. Script and Project Development
A contribution for Script and Project Development can be spent on all kinds of research (i.e. archive research, travel costs etc), on the development of a script or on the production of a trailer. To conclude this phase the fund expects to receive a script or trailer.
The maximum contribution for script and project development is €5.000.
2. Production and Post-production
The maximum contribution for this category is €17.500.
3. Other activities
The maximum contribution is €15.000.
The following activities will be considered for financial support:
- Distribution initiatives: The support of local screenings, preferably of local or regional documentaries, such as mobile cinemas, travelling film festivals or special screenings in remote or conflict areas. Projects aimed at local distribution of a particular documentary will also be taken into consideration. Overall, the fund is receptive to alternative and innovative ideas, as long as these are well-founded in a clear plan of implementation. Besides financial support, JVF and IDFA can offer know-how, archive and contacts.
- Documentary film festivals: The support of film festivals that aim to promote the documentary film genre and that act as a meeting point for local filmmakers and audiences. Besides financial support JVF and IDFA can offer know-how, archive and contacts.
- Documentary workshops: The support of the organization of workshops, for filmmakers and/or producers from non-Western countries as defined by the DAC-list, dedicated to script development, production and/or distribution and sales.
