Synopsis
Project Kashmir is a feature documentary in which the directors, two American friends from opposite sides of the divide (one is Pakistani Muslim and the other Indian Hindu), investigate the war in Kashmir and find their friendship tested over deeply rooted religious biases. Guided by an anonymous telephone informer who is quick to advise the women not to take anyone's word at face value, they attempt to navigate the treacherous maze of occupation, insurgency, unrest, censorship, and religious animosity, slowly finding themselves being pulled apart by their own increasing identification with the opposing factions of the interminable conflict. Project Kashmir explores war between countries and war within oneself, while expertly juxtaposing moving personal stories of Kashmiris with those of the two American women in one of the most beautiful, and most deadly, places on earth Kashmir.
