The Fund is thrilled to present the results of its May 2018 selection round of the IBF Classic program for development and production of documentaries, and the IBF Europe funding scheme for international co-productions.
The Fund has selected four projects in the project development category, and five in the production and post-production category. What stands out from the May application round is the significant amount of upcoming talent. The selection features a number of filmmakers working on their first or second feature documentary, including for instance Inadelso Cossa from Mozambique, whose previous feature film A Memory in Three Acts premiered at IDFA 2016 in the First Appearance Competition.
The total amount granted across all nine projects is 100.000 euros. The Fund received 350 applications in this category.
The supported projects include:
IBF Classic: Project Development
IBF Classic: Production & Post-Production
The final selection committee for the IBF Classic May round included Rebecca Lichtenfeld (Director of Social Impact Media at Bertha Philanthropies), Alex Szalat (Deputy Director of the Society and Culture Program Unit, ARTE France), Rada Sesic (Film Consultant, Filmmaker, Film Curator, Critic and Lecturer), Mohamed Siam (Filmmaker), Jorge Caballero (Filmmaker) and Isabel Arrate Fernandez (Managing Director, IDFA Bertha Fund).
Six documentary projects have received support through the IBF Europe - International Co-Production scheme – aimed to boost collaboration between producers in MEDIA countries and producers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe.
The supported projects include for instance Watch Over Me, the new documentary by director Farida Pacha, whose previous film My Name Is Salt won the IDFA First Appearance competition in 2013. Two of the supported films, Maite Alberdi’s The Mole Agent and Alyx Ayn G. Arumpac’s Aswang, were pitched at the Forum last year – IDFA’s international documentary co-financing and co-production market.
The Fund received a total of 32 applications in this category. Each of the selected projects will receive a support of 40.000 euros.
