Don't Be a Dick About It wins VPRO IDFA Audience Award

Don't Be a Dick About It by American director Benjamin Mullinkosson has just won the VPRO IDFA Audience Award (€ 5.000), the grand public prize of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. The news was announced on Saturday, November 23, during the VPRO broadcast Best of IDFA: Audience Award 2018 from the Westergastheater in Amsterdam.

The film paints an endearing portrait of brothers Peter and Matthew, who love each other but constantly argue. Peter is obsessed with the TV show Survivor, which he enacts at home in an unwavering ritual. Matthew, on the other hand, is focused on overcoming his fear of dogs. Don't Be a Dick About It offers an ode to American family life, staying true to yourself, and friendship.

The winner of the VPRO IDFA Audience Award is determined by festival visitors who, after an IDFA film screening, rank their appreciation for the film by way of a voting card. Now in its third year, the VPRO IDFA Audience Award is made possible by VPRO.

This year, 194 films participated in the audience competition. A total of 33,156 people voted. The top 10 most highly voted films are:

Don't Be a Dick About It
    The Silence of Others
    Free Solo
    A Thousand Girls Like Me
    Dark Corner
    Sheep Hero

The VPRO IDFA Audience Award marks the final weekend of the festival, which opened last Wednesday, November 14 in Royal Theater Carré with Aboozar Amini's film Kabul, City in the Wind. This year, IDFA is expected to match the record number of 285,000 visits from 2017. A total of 3,400 professional guests visited IDFA from all over the world.
