IDFA welcomes new venues to festival roster

Kriterion, Amsterdam Public Library, Rialto, Pakhuis de Zwijger, and Amstelpassage to join the family of IDFA venues.

More than four new locations will join the IDFA family this year. Cinemas Kriterion and Rialto will host regular film screenings for audiences, as well as cultural center Pakhuis de Zwijger. OBA, Amsterdam's Central Public Library, will be the stage of this year's youth program IDFA Junior, and IDFA DocLab 2019 will take place at Tolhuistuin, Central Station's Amstelpassage and the ARTIS-Planetarium.

Kriterion, run by a collective of students since the postwar years, is one of the city's oldest arthouse movie theaters. During every day of the festival, the cinema will host regular screenings of documentaries.

Housed in a monumental art deco building, Rialto is another of Amsterdam's historic cinemas. During the festival, IDFA will screen films here during week nights and on weekends.

    Pakhuis de Zwijger

Pakhuis de Zwijger has been hosting IDFA by Night—IDFA's summer series of outdoor screenings—for a couple of years already, but it is now joining the roster of official festival locations. Films will be screened here on both weekends of IDFA 2019.

    OBA Oosterdok (Central Public Libary)

Amsterdam's modernist Central Public Library, near Central Station, will welcome IDFA Junior this year. IDFA Junior is IDFA's youth program.

    Amstelpassage (Amsterdam Central Station)

The Amstelpassage—with the alias Lil' Amsterdam—is the new hub for pop-up shops and temporary exhibitions in Amsterdam Central Station. This year, IDFA DocLab's VR Cinema will be located here.

    IDFA DocLab: New locations

IDFA DocLab will include multiple new locations this year, with Tolhuistuin as its epicenter; this is where you'll find the DocLab exhibition. The Amstelpassage will be the stage of this year's VR Cinema, and the ARTIS-Planetarium will host a series of spectacular 360° dome projections. Read more about IDFA's new media program here.

    Industry HQ: De Brakke Grond

Situated next to Dam Square, Flemish cultural center De Brakke Grond will now serve as the main hub for IDFA's industry activities, including the Industry Office, Guest Services, Guest Box Office, and Press Desk.
