Over the last few weeks, three IDFA Awards were handed out at festivals and industry events in Guadalajara, Kolkata and Prague. The winning directors and producers will get the chance to present themselves and their project at IDFA in various ways.
In late February during DocEdge, the Asian forum for documentary in Kolkata, the IDFA Award went to the project Slave Garden by Abhra Aich. The director and producer of will receive an IDFAcademy pass during IDFA 2017, and the festival will cover their travel expenses.
In the first week of March, the IDFA Award for the most promising pitch at the East European Forum during the East Doc Platform in Prague went to the absurd comedy doc Yours Sincerely, Social System by Martin Tokár. A week later at the 32nd edition of the Guadalajara Film Festival, the year's third IDFA Award was given out in collaboration with IMCINE to the most promising project pitched in the festival's DocuLab market event. The winner was La batalla del volcan by Julio López. The award consists of a participation pass for the IDFAcademy program during the upcoming edition of IDFA, with travel expenses covered by IMCINE.
In the upcoming months, more awards will be given out at DocMontevideo, the Durban Film Festival, the Sarajevo Film Festival, the Taiwan CNEX and AFAC. In all cases, the winners will get the chance to attend IDFA with either an IDFA Forum or an IDFAcademy pass.
