This year the Karen de Bok Talent Award will be granted for the first time, to the winner of the IDFAcademy & NPO Fund Workshop. Its name-giver, the VPRO television editor in chief who passed away this year, was of great significance to the development of television talent.
The award will be handed out at the festival on November 16, by NPO-chairwoman Shula Rijxman. It's the successor of the Media Fund Award Documentary, which ceased to exist after the discontinuation of the Media Fund this year.
At the IDFAcademy & NPO-Fund workshops six documentary talents work on the development and production of an documentary project with the guidance of renowned filmmakers. The NPO Fund will award the winner € 25.000 to further develop the project in collaboration with a producer and a broadcast. The winner can subsequently apply for another grant at the NPO Fund to get the film made. NPO, IDFA and VPRO have decided, after consulting husband Emile Fallaux, to name the award after Karen de Bok.
