High on Crack Street - Lost Lives in Lowell

    • Jon Alpert, MaryAnn de Leo, Rich Farrell
    • United States
    • 1995
    • 60 min

Whoever thinks that most American crack fiends loiter around uninhabitable barracks on the dark streets of New York will have to shed this prejudice after having seen high on crack street. The film also puts an end to any romantic notion there could be about the drug scene. In this documentary filmmakers Jon Alpert and Maryann De Leo give a merciless view of the lives of addicts. They were assited in making the film by former drug addict Rich Farell from Lowell. Alpert and De Leo portray three adult crack addicts from a white middle?class background. We witness people, avidly inhaling thick clouds of white smoke from plastic bottles. The next moment they curse themselves for not being able to quit their habit. No matter how hard they try to shut out reality, the reality of their misery cannot be denied.
