Amatrice, Chernobyl, Aleppo: three iconic disaster sites from modern history. Amatrice was destroyed by an earthquake in 2016, Chernobyl experienced one of the biggest nuclear disasters in history and in Aleppo, reconstruction has begun with caution since the war destroyed the historic center.
