Festival history
started one-and-a-half years ago as a protest on the part of filmmakers against the Dutch government's policy to send 26,000 asylum seekers home - people who have been waiting for a residence permit for five years or more. reveals probably the most painful aspect of this asylum policy: the effect of the excruciatingly endless uncertainty on children. These kids, who were often born in Holland, have spent the bulk of their lives in this country. They are fluent in Dutch and have formed a clear image of a future here. It is incomprehensible that the Dutch government has decided to send these children back to the countries of their parents, where they often know absolutely nothing about the language or culture, and where no decent education or otherwise positive future is waiting for them.
