Festival history
Quamer is a cute 11-year-old who lives with her family in a one-room apartment. Her greatest wish is to go to school and learn to read and write, but instead she has to work long hours to provide for her younger siblings and her mother. Her father works far from their city and only comes home once in a while. Quamer skilfully decorates tiny colourful bracelets that the family sells to the shop next door. The only entertainment she has is TV, and everybody wants to watch, especially the film songs and soap operas. Still, Quamar dreams of going back to school one day. She proudly shows us her writing on the wall of the apartment, where she wrote the name of God and her own. Sometimes, her friends drop by on their way home from school and help her finish her work. As she cheerfully walks the streets of the southern city of Hyderabad, Quamer comments on her life, dreams and hopes. More than just another portrait of a poor Indian family, this film enchants thanks to Quamer's personality and the director's free approach.
