‘Wounded Gold’ is about visible and less visible injuries, about facing limitations in life, but never giving up. This film is about reconciliation and overcoming traumas through sports and friendship. During the Bosnian war more than 100.000 people were killed. Many civilians were brutally murdered. Twice as many were seriously injured. The country was not able to take good care of the over 200.000 injured after the war ended. There were hardly any proper health facilities for those who were disabled. For many wounded men and youngsters, sitting volleyball offered an opportunity to get out of their isolation, be involved in sports and finally regain a place in society. They were able to acquire a job and started to rebuild their lives in post-war Bosnia thanks to their top performances. The focus of the film are four personal stories. Four intimate portrets. One of the coach of the national Bosnian-Herzegovinian sitting voleyballteam and three portrets of the players who were children when they got injured during the war. 'Wounded Gold' shows their fighting spirit, their talents and their daily life.
