Synopsis

The remarkable, daring life of poet, writer, and activist Maya
Angelou unfolds in this in-depth portrait. Angelou narrates an
entrancing chronicle of a youth shaped by the vicious racism of
the Jim Crow South and sexual abuse. Rare footage traces her
varied pre-writing career as a nightclub dancer and singer, her
courage as a political activist, and her transformative friendships
with James Baldwin, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X.
Features Cicely Tyson, Alfre Woodward, President Bill Clinton,
Common, Sec. Hillary Clinton, Quincy Jones, Lou Gossett, Jr. and Oprah Winfrey.
