Victim of a Kafkaesque bureaucracy, Alfred (Mehran Karimi Naseri) has been stuck in the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport for over a decade. His refugee papers were stolen in 1988, after which he was forced to stay at the airport until he receives his papers from Belgium. Nobody expected that the process would take 11 years. Meanwhile Alfred has got into the Guinness Book of world records, the Time magazine, countless TV news... To make his story even more sensational reporters have added things and left parts untold. When the New York Times reporter arrives, she finds many of the airport staff reluctant to talk about Alfred. They are simply fed up with the press. The documentary crew is at place when Alfred finally receives his papers and agrees to go with the crew to Brussels. But he changes his mind overnight as many reporters show up for the event. He chooses the nest he is used to and the media attention which clearly enjoys over a normal life.
