YELLOW WASPS: ANATOMY OF A WAR CRIME is the third part of a series on fascism. FASCISM: THE RETURN, the first part, demonstrated that fifty years after World War II fascism is rearing its head again all over the world. In part two, FASCINATING FASCISM, somebody was followed who was fascinated by fascism. The third part is a case study of fascism: the elimination of the Muslim population of Zvornik in East Bosnia. The film describes how the other ethnic groups, incited by the Serbian media campaign, sided with a nationalistic ideology. This resulted in cleansings and executions among Muslims, carried out by paramilitary groups like the ‘Yellow Wasps’. Before the Serbian army intervened, half of the 80,000 inhabitants of Zvornik were Muslims. Today, Zvornik is completely destroyed. Not a single Muslim is living there. Where once a mosque was standing, an enormous parking lot now spreads out. All traces of the Muslim culture and religion have been erased. The film reveals the contacts between the ‘Yellow Wasps’ and the Serbian government, and finally the investigation by Jovan Dulovic, a Serbian journalist who is in opposition, brings to light the enormous massacre: rape, torturing and mass executions were of the order of the day in Zvornik.
