2 Minutes Silence, Please

What is the significance today of the annual Dutch Remembrance Day on 4 May? With
that question in mind, Heddy Honigmann interviewed four Dutch people: filmmaker
Netty Rosenfeld, writer Anna Enquist, a cafe owner with an establishment in
Amsterdam, and the daughter of a former NSB member (Dutch national socialist
movement). The conversations took place on Remembrance Day, and the documentary
is divided in three parts: morning, afternoon and evening. Thus, we not only
gain an insight into the different feelings and thoughts that Remembrance day
evokes in the people involved, but we can also see from close by how they
prepare themselves for the traditional two minutes of silence. There are quite
some differences, but the intensity with which the four people anticipate the
supreme moment results in a well-elaborated buildup of tension. By using four
camera crews, the eventual two minutes of silence were actually shot
parallel.
