Festival history
CORONATION DAY paints a portrait of poet Dagur Siguroarson, who published his first collection of poems in 1958. Apart from being a prominent figure in Icelandic literature, Siguroarson is also a flamboyant personality who rejects the values of middle-class society. He leads a wandering life. CORONATION DAY covers one day in the poet's life, on which he pays a visit to his daughter, eats a meal with some friends and goes to see a doctor. The highlight of the film is an all-night party in Reykjavik, which has been organised by underground artists, who consider him to be their predecessor and crown him their king. After the wild party we find the poet at a friend's place, where he lets the night drift by, sunk in deep thought.
