Festival history
As a virtuoso left-fielder with the mentality of a street fighter, soccer pro Glenn Helder seemed a Sunday's child. But when he got injured while playing for Arsenal, things went terribly wrong. In search of thrills and distraction, he started frequenting the casino, gambling away his salary of 400,000 pounds a year. From then onwards, it all went downhill for Helder, who in this film initially evokes our aversion, but gradually our sympathy.
Everybody can identify with Helder's story, at least in part. His wife left him for another man, taking their young son with her. This caused the emotional Helder to go completely berserk: he beat up his wife's new boyfriend and went to prison for seven months. How does he look back on this episode? "I can point a finger at people, but three fingers will always point at me."Helder's passion is now drumming. He talks candidly about his life and obviously has yet to come to terms with the painful divorce. He's angry at himself and others, but ", isn't it? Every man has his fucking cross to bear."
