It took 2 years to complete locationing on the dry beaches of Gyotoku in Chiba and Ariake bay in Kyushu. The film captures the diversity of life on the dry beach from small shellfish to bird. Use of telescopic lenses and the patience of the crew were well rewarded in the form of vivid image throughout the film. This was the second film Kenji Simomura (1903?67) directed. He was a self taught ornithologist who had no experience in filmmaking before he joined the educational/scientific film company, Riken Kagaku Eiga. The film received various awards of the year, and established Simomura as a talented documentary maker.
