The greatest IDFA films for teachers and their students
In addition to the many screenings for audience and professionals, every edition of IDFA includes over a hundred school screenings. These screenings are non-profit and can only be visited by schools. On every festival weekday, a special selection of films is screened in different theaters in Amsterdam. The screenings are a big success; over ten thousand Dutch pupils of primary and secondary education come to IDFA every year.

School program on tour
We work hard to make the school program available also in various theaters outside of Amsterdam, so that evermore students will be able to watch our beautiful documentaries. Currently, the participating venues are: Podium Mozaïek in Amsterdam West, Bijlmer Parktheater in Amsterdam South-East, Lux in Nijmegen, Parkvilla in Alphen aan den Rijn, LantarenVenster Rotterdam, De Nieuwe Scene in Venlo, Filmschuur Haarlem, Filmhuis The Hague and Het Fraterhuis in Zwolle. Do you want IDFA school screenings at your local theater? Let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org
In addition to the films, we offer educational resources that help enable the students to engage with the films and the issues they deal with more thoroughly. These materials include questions and background information about subjects and themes, and some information about the director and the filming process; we believe it to be very important that the students learn about the medium of documentary film, and the complexities it holds within.
In addition to the school screenings we also offer various IDFA educational workshops, organized by our partners Foam (photography) and the Animatiebus (stop-motion animation).
