An inspirational, hour-long conversation with renowned filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist Sandra Madi. Writer Pamela Cohn talks with her about her body of work, creative methods, and views on documentary filmmaking, highlighted by excerpts from her films.
Sandra Madi (Jordan, 1976) is a film director, actress, producer, and writer. She has 20 plays on her record and toured many Arab countries and Europe with them. She gave theater workshops, and was awarded best actress at several international theater festivals. She worked as a radio presenter, and as director and producer with many local and international production companies. After graduating from the Arab Institute of Film in December 2006, she established Red Carbon Productions in Amman, a company with which she produced many films, TV programs, and commercials. Her films Detention Camp (2011), Naher Al Bared Speaks (2013) and SAKEN (2014), among others, were selected for numerous international festivals and received several awards.
Madi's latest film Heaven Beneath My Feet is selected for IDFA's Best of Fests section this year.
