About IDFAcademy during the festival
Every November during IDFA, IDFAcademy offers an intensive four-day training program for emerging documentary filmmakers and producers. IDFAcademy 2016 will be held November 17-20. Application for the 2016 program is now open; the deadline is October 1.
IDFAcademy is open to emerging filmmakers and producers from all over the world, offering them a comprehensive introduction to the festival and the professional market. The IDFAcademy program gives participants the opportunity to meet a broad spectrum of highly esteemed documentary professionals who are willing to share their knowledge of the industry.
During the training program, the participants gain up-to-date market knowledge of the documentary industry and become street-smart about the current trends in documentary filmmaking. Trends and models in various parts of the world are dealt with to ensure that participants develop a broad view of the sector.
Last year's program included a Masterclass with Errol Morris as well as a session about the latest trends in crowd funding with Liz Cook (Kickstarter) and Kristen Konvitz (Indiegogo). The Pitch and Trailer Workshop, with tips and tricks from experts in the field of making a successful pitch and trailer, was also part of the program and hosted by Mikeal Upstrup of EDN.
