Synopsis

The confronting story of four refugees: Fathi - escaping death threats from Gaddafi and a key player in the rebellion against his regime; Fasil - a journalist from Ethiopia sentenced to life imprisonment for condemning the fraudulent elections of 2005; Li Zhu - a Falun Gong Buddhist sentenced to prison and beatings for demonstrating against the government and Renuka - a young woman from the supposedly peaceful land of Bhutan but who is one of 100,000 ethnic Nepalese violently expelled. As they face every obstacle to integrate in the Netherlands, they are forced into an ever more hostile climate.

IDFA is revamping its competitions September 1, 2015 | From the next festival edition, the IDFA juries will grant two awards in each competition: one for best documentary, and a special jury award. A new award will also be presented for the best international youth documentary. All jury awards will be presented on Wednesday, November 25.

IDFA Awards given out in Durban, Montevideo and Sarajevo August 27, 2015 | Three IDFA Awards were handed out over the summer to promising projects pitched at three international film markets. As part of the awards, all winners will attend IDFA in November.
