het grootste van het grootste - abraham tuschinski
This documentary directed by Ger Poppelaars and produced by Rob Houwer tells the dramatic story of a poor young Jewish tailor from Poland who ends up in Rotterdam on his way to America in 1904. In pursuit of his own American Dream he becomes the King of Dutch Cinema. Abraham Tuschinski builds a veritable palace as a monument to his aspirations. But the unchanged Art-Nouveau TUSCHINSKI THEATRE will prove its creator fatal during the Nazi occupation of Holland in World War II. Far from the glamour and glitter of the world of the magic screen, Abraham meets his tragic end in Auschwitz in 1942. Ger Poppelaars depicts the eventful personal life of the perfectionist showman Tuschinski, using archival footage and interviews with people involved.
