This year, Qatar is home to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, the state of the art stadiums are built by migrant workers, often under terrible circumstances. Since 2010, more than 1600 Nepalese workers have died in Qatar. Rudra Khadka, a Nepalese journalist specializing in migrant work, wants to give these people a voice. Most of them are from rural areas and are not aware of their rights. The documentary The Toll Paid for the World Cup in Qatar focuses on Nepalese laborers and their stories. These are unique testimonies, since many of them are paid or threatened not to speak out.
