Is There a Pine on the Mountain

Our central focus is on a time when the mother of my abusive ex-partner came to stay with us in our Parisian apartment. We open the film with a bitter exchange between mother and son before juxtaposing this with more reflective moments. In autobiographical style, the film examines the generational vices that result from authoritarian families with a dangerous masculine ideology at their core. By tackling a widespread issue through its dissection on a micro-level – using my own experience of having been in an abusive relationship – I hope to understand the root cause better and identify what factors may have led to such a phenomenon.
