The nominees for the Amsterdam Human Rights Award, which will be granted during IDFA for the first time, have been announced. They are Amal by Mohamed Siam (IDFA opening documentary), Devil’s Freedom by Everardo González and Piripkura by Renata Terra.
The Amsterdam Human Rights Award is a new international documentary award, issued by the City of Amsterdam. It will be granted to the documentary which best depicts the theme of human rights. It comes with a prize money of € 25.000.
Barbara Visser, artistic director of IDFA, announced the three nominees during the program presentation. The three documentaries will be screened at IDFA several times. On Monday November 20, the International Children's Rights Day, they will be shown in Tuschinski 1 and at 8 pm, the award will be handed out by alderman Simone Kukenheim. The jury is comprised of filmmaker Maite Alberdi (Chile), filmmaker and producer Eric Gandini (Italy) and Dirk van der Straaten (The Netherlands), artistic director of Movies that Matter.
