Filmmaker Luuk Bouwman invites director and editor Qutaiba Barhamji for a special screening of Gevar’s Land (2020).
Following the screening, both filmmakers will enter a dialogue on the process of editing, focusing specifically on the complexities of editing one’s own material. How do you decide what to show, and what to withhold? How do these choices ultimately shape the story being told?
Qutaiba Barhamji is a Damascus-born director and film editor who has worked on over 50 films in 15 different languages across documentary and fiction. His editing credits include award-winning films presented at Cannes, Venice, Sundance, and the European Film Awards. As a director, his own work has screened internationally at major festivals. Gevar's Land is Barhamji's first feature documentary film as a director.
Luuk Bouwman is one of the filmmakers selected by TalentScope for its new talent development program by the Netherlands Film Fund in collaboration with IDFA. The 12-month program is a personalised and curated trajectory aimed at deepening authorship. It provides space for both creative exploration and international visibility, aiming to develop a new documentary plan that stands out for its originality, boldness, and relevance.
