Artistic Research Week 2026: Soyun Park
Description

This screening is part of the Keep an Eye Filmacademie Festival Artistic Research Week 2026, featuring graduation films by Master of Film students from the Amsterdam Filmacademie.

In this screening, you will see The Neighbour by Soyun Park. Following by an artist talk and Q&A that will explore the research process behind the film and how it informs an experiential form of storytelling at the intersection of critical technology and cinematic practice.

The Neighbour by Soyun Park

After a mysterious visitor wakes her in the middle of the night, S is unsettled by a question: can she become a body untamed by the algorithmic gaze and its records?

Following the traces of her own movements, she searches for ways to inhabit her body beyond prediction. Through LiDAR scans, security camera footage, depth imaging, and machine-learning tracking systems operating without awareness, she begins to encounter her body as strange and unfamiliar. As this attention extends into collective gesture, the film explores play as a condition that unsettles how bodies are rendered into data and control.

The Neighbour is an experimental film about bodies in a data-driven surveillance state: measured, predicted, and made visible, yet resist being fully legible. It invites us to attend to the familiar body, and to consider how opacity might be practiced through collective movement as a gesture of resistance.
