Festival history
The \i Trendsmap\i0 website allows users to see at a glance what Twitter users at any given geographical location are talking about. Viewing at a global level, visitors can see that New Yorkers are mainly talking about a hoax, people in Cape Town are discussing summer concerts, and the residents of Jakarta are concentrated on the Soulnation Festival. Zoom in to city level, and you might find that S\'e3o Paulo tweeters are talking about the big bang theory. Every day, \i Trendsmap\i0 analyzes more than five million messages and puts them on an interactive world map. Users can click on the subject to go a step deeper and view the tweeters' pages, where they can choose to view related web pages or videos for background. It is also possible to see which areas are talking about the same subject -- possibly useful for marketing professionals, but also very interesting for journalists who can use this information to assess geographical "activity" around a given issue. If there is unrest anywhere in the world, \i Trendsmap\i0 will display what people are talking about. Twitter itself is soon going to pass on users' location coordinates (if they give their permission). This means that a website such as \i Trendsmap\i0 will be able to provide information about what people are thinking at street level. \par \par www.trendsmap.com
