Festival history

A group of Chinese farmers tours the country with a tent. They were fed up with all the drudgery and one day decided to go and do something in show business. Now, they manage a travelling show in which popular songs are chanted and girls perform sexy dances. Their tent is usually pitched somewhere on the outskirts of a city. However, when they apply for a permit as usual, they are asked to put up their tent somewhere else. The national holiday is drawing near and the ‘health inspection‘ of Beijing has to make sure that the streets are neat and tidy. In their eyes, the piquant show smudges the neighbourhood. In the meantime, business is not going very well, either. The owner and his son disagree about the way the firm should be run. The audience stays away, too, and the atmosphere reaches a low point because the employees have not been paid for a number of months.
