Festival history
Director Ayse Erkmen regularly has a tea leaves reader to predict her future. This does not involve red velour drapes, incense or candlelight. Just a chain-smoking expert who occasionally casts a glance inside a cup. The camera follows the filmmaker. The fortune teller talks about a long trip Erkmen will be taking. He adapts his story to everything she tells him, effortlessly changing the destination from Istanbul to New Zealand. He has the great talent of remaining extremely vague despite his attention to detail. So without even a single camera movement, we get a hilarious and very visual description of a long journey. When a sea lion and a seal wave the filmmaker goodbye, his story even attains some Disney-like qualities. Who is the real director here?
