Festival history
COME AS YOU ARE portrays three people who have created an alter ego in which they indulge their (sexual) fantasies. Ron, in daily life a middle-aged man, is the enticing drag queen Candy; the timid John uses his alter ego of an urban cowboy to search his male, homosexual identity, and Bridget, finally, satisfies her need for sexual attractiveness through a fantasy figure, who is a cross between a comic heroine and a femme fatale. The three stories have been filmed in an appropriate style, the B-movie, the western and the film noir, respectively. Besides being a sketch of three complicated lives, the film raises questions about sexual identity, social 'masks' and the relationship between fantasy and reality.
