Festival history
Ayed Morrar has taken on a very important role as a peacemaker within the Palestinian community, involving members of Fatah and Hamas, as well as Israelis, in a peaceful struggle against the destruction of his village, Budrus, by the Israeli Separation Barrier. 1.2 square kilometers and 3,000 olive trees will be lost, and along with them a significant source of income. A solution would appear to be a long way off, until Morrar's 15-year-old daughter Iltezam sets up a women's movement that quickly takes up a position on the frontlines. The film follows father and daughter from the establishment of their non-violent movement to achieving the impossible: Morrar manages to unite Fatah and Hamas, introduces a female leader, and invites hundreds of Israelis to support him in his struggle in the village. Many activists from Budrus are now taking their non-violent struggle to villages such as Bil'in, Nabi Saleh and Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. \i Budrus\i0 presents the views of many different parties: from the Palestinian leaders of the movement and their Israeli supporters to IDF Captain Doron Spielman and the head of the border police stationed there at the time. Without wallowing in misery or romanticizing the peace process, \i Budrus\i0 presents the success of this social movement that is driven by pragmatism.
