Ricardo, Miriam y Fidel
In 1953 the young law student Fidel Castro delivered a now famous speech against Fulgencio Batista‘s dictatorship and for a just state on Cuba. This address left such a deep impression on Ricardo that he quit his job as a radio journalist and joined the communist rebels to fight for a better future. Just like Castro, Ricardo had a daughter of eighteen months, called Miriam. Together with Ché Guevara he founded the radio station Radio Rebelde, with the main goal to propagate political views. Meanwhile the splendour of their heroic enterprise has faded. Radio Rebelde struggled for truth, but present-day radio stations only send out the official views of the Communist Party. Therefore daughter Miriam listens to Radio Martí now, which is a branch of the Voice of America. Just like Castro‘s daughter Alina and thousands of other Cubans she wants to emigrate to America, hoping that this country will offer her family a better future.
