Man may be the superstar of the galaxy, but in fact his biological equipment is in fact inferior. Animals can perceive things that humans will never notice. Sharks, for example, have a sense that registers even the smallest amount of electricity, like the tiny electrical currents on the body. Birds of prey use ultraviolet rays to hunt, whereas we have to protect ourselves against them with sunglasses. Hippopotami communicate over distances of up to thirty kilometres. And it is no fairytale that talking with plants is good for them. Indeed, plants ‘talk’ to wasps when they are being attacked by caterpillars. The invisible powers of animals can also benefit people. Dogs can detect cancer and sense oncoming epileptic fits. The healing powers of dolphins are a growing industry. Equally astonishing as these recent scientific discoveries are the techniques with which John Downer’s team manages to visualise them. These are shown in "the making of" - supernatural superstars. The spectator constantly has a front-row seat, gaining fascinating insights from the perspective of the animal.
