Festival history
The unstoppable journey of the poisonous cane toad is a Darwinian success story without peer. This corpulent beast originated in Central America, but was released into sugarcane country on a limited scale in North Queensland, Eastern Australia in the 1930s. Its mission was to eat and destroy the insects that were wreaking havoc on the sugarcane crops. What the farmers did not anticipate, however, was the toads ability to reproduce - so they soon spread like wildfire through the entire northeast of the country. This had a disastrous impact on the environment for many of its native species. approaches this ecological blunder with gentle irony and humor. The combination of impressive cinematography combined with 3D filmmaking completely immerses us in the world of this evolutionary overachiever.
