Tyler is a peaceful, typically American community in Eastern Texas. In the weekends dozens of flaxen-haired cheerleaders jump the highest leaps for the local football team and on Sundays the worshippers gather to emphatically affirm their allegiance to God. Tyler is also the town where in 1993 the brutal and senseless murder took place of Nicolas Ray West, a young homosexual. With the tension buildup of a thriller and the interview techniques of a seasoned inspector, LONE STAR HATE follows the witness hearings of the three suspects who were arrested shortly after the killing. Two of them, Donald Aldrich and Henry Dunn, have meanwhile been sentenced to death and are currently serving their time on death row. The third defendant, David McMillan, is preparing for his hearing that should clarify his precise role in the events. Is he the innocent youth who was persuaded by his friends to participate in a that got out of hand? Or did he play an active role in West‘s death? Contradictory testimonies, a video recording of a police interrogation, and the depositions of Aldrich and Dunn who have nothing to lose and accuse each other in turns, make this film an enticing and disconcerting one.
