Sjpioen
Many years ago, an unknown stranger from Sweden called Andersson settled in a hunter's cabin on the bank of Lake Balkhash near the village of Karoy and stayed there. He plaits straw mats, catches fish, collects herbs as agreed with the local authorities, and thus ekes out a living. Sometimes he pays a visit to the village to collect foreign periodicals from the post-office, to do some shopping, and to visit his acquaintances. Afterwards he goes back home.
The lonely and independent life-style of the self-supporting Swede causes a lot of gossip in the village. The public opinion which is the result of these groundless rumours is analysed in this film. Neatness and order, so highly appreciated by Andersson, his knowledge of foreign languages, his preference for Dutch cheese, and his attitude towards women and alcohol all become a subject for conjecture.
Who is he, why does he live alone ? The people of Karoy, lost in guesses, find a conclusion that explains everything: probably, Andersson is a spy.
