Within a year, illiteracy on Cuba was eliminated thanks to the literacy brigades: an army of 100,000 youngsters who set out with chalk and blackboards under their arms. HISTORY OF A BATTLE follows them during their activities. The film also shows how the Cuban people devoted themselves to the economic progress of the country, and how they resisted the invasion at the Bay of Pigs.
