Festival history

Filmmaker Andrew Hood has always been afraid of the dark. That is the reason why he has become captivated by the light bulb and conceived a passion for Gyro Gearloose. Hood dreams of the eternal light. In BINNINGERS BIRNE, he explores the life story and background of the German engineer Dieter Binninger, who devoted his life to the invention of the perpetually burning light bulb. This Binninger turns out to be an intriguing character: pioneer in video technology, passionate do-it-yourselfer, flying fanatic, inventor, and ardent fighter against the big electricity cartels. From this portrait of Binninger, a film emerges about the fascination with light, which is not only felt by Hood. Even Bob Dylan passes by in a short press conference in which he phrases his life motto: ‘Keep a good head and always carry a light bulb!‘
