Festival history
Hexstatic (Stuart Warren-Hill) made the music videos TIMBER and NATURAL RHYTHM for the band Coldcut, consisting of Matt Black and Jonathan More. The three of them were precursors in the pop-music scene by sampling TV images and subtly linking them to the music. The TIMBER video is entirely composed of video recordings of Greenpeace and was also inspired by the work of nature filmmakers. Sounds and images of axes, saws and actions against the felling of trees are interrupted by subdued singing. NATURAL RHYTHM shows the natural movements of a number of insects and birds. By repeating them with the help of veejay-like techniques, in combination with the music, a nature film ensues with a wild content.
