How do we decide what films get preserved? On what grounds? And who makes
these decisions? Marking the kick-off of a new partnership between IDFA
and the EYE Film Institute in which one classic documentary is annually
restored and presented, this Talk tackles the complex role of
restoration and preservation in the documentary industry and examines
how to come to a fair system of selecting which documentaries ‘deserve’
to be preserved.
Guests: Giovanna Fossati (EYE Film Institute, UvA), Nikolai Izvolov (Moscow Film Museum), Juana Suarez (NYU).
Moderator: Sonja de Leeuw (Utrecht University)
