In 2018, IDFA's artistic director Orwa Nyrabia took the initiative for the launch of the International Coalition of Filmmakers at Risk, in cooperation with the European Film Academy (EFA) and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). Together, these two festivals set up an organisation aimed at supporting filmmakers threatened with political persecution. The ICFR has recently developed additional activities to support filmmakers at risk in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
