The IDFA Industry department is happy to announce the start of a new chapter as longstanding colleagues Laurien ten Houten and Jenni Tuovinen take on new roles in the team. Starting this summer, ten Houten will manage IDFA's industry relations and talks, Tuovinen will supervise the production of IDFA Forum and Docs for Sale, and the department will welcome a new colleague in the position of Markets Manager. All will continue to work under Head of IDFA Industry Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen and alongside Guest Services Manager David Leenders. The restructure follows the announcement of Yorinde Segal’s new position back in February.
“I very much look forward to working within this new constellation at IDFA Industry that will see two much-appreciated colleagues taking on new roles at the same time as the team is enforced with a new member. I’m confident that these shifts in responsibility will strengthen the Industry department,” said Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen, Head of IDFA Industry.
Ten Houten, who has overseen the international sales market Docs for Sale since 2007, will now head up IDFA’s Industry relations and industry programming as the new Industry Relations and Talks Manager. Moving forward, ten Houten will curate the festival’s Industry Program and talks in addition to improving IDFA Industry’s international relations in liaison with her network of filmmakers and professionals. Additionally, ten Houten will continue her work with the international filmmaker delegations who attend the festival to pitch projects, network, and talk international co-production; and the IDFA Spotlight Awards that award international documentary talents with festival accreditation and industry mentorship.
Tuovinen will now take over the coordination responsibilities of both Docs for Sale and co-production and co-financing market IDFA Forum. Since coming to IDFA in 2017, Tuovinen has worked as Producer for IDFA Forum and the IDFA Bertha Fund. In 2018 she became a year-round member of the IDFA Industry team, taking on Senior Producer responsibilities in 2020. In her new role, Tuovinen will continue to build on IDFA’s market activities while leading a team of six producers in the delivery of both markets. With responsibilities that include overseeing the submissions process, inviting decision makers to the Forum, and leading the production of the festival’s market activities, she will play an integral part in shaping the services provided and ensuring both markets provide the best possible platform for filmmakers to connect with the industry.
Finally, the team will be completed with a Markets Manager, who will deliver strategic input about the setup of IDFA’s markets. The new role is currently open to applicants, with the position to be filled for the second half of 2021. Read more about the vacancy here.
