Making friends is hard to do after so much time apart, but IDFA Meets and Tabili are here to help. On Thursday, May 19 at FC Hyena, we kick off the sunny season with a special event to reignite your social flame. Together with Tabili, IDFA Meets presents four heartfelt short films that celebrate the summery joy of platonic connections, plus an interactive side program to be enjoyed with friends, old and new. Tickets are now on sale through FC Hyena.

    Program

Alongside drinks, music, ice cream and speed-friending games, this IDFA Meets event will screen four short summertime films about friendship in all its forms. Come flex your unused social muscles and warm up for the sunny season as we gather to discuss and reflect on the value of friendships, what kind of friend you are, and what kind you aim to be. Maybe you’ll even meet your new bestie?

    Daniel (Poland)
    dir. Anastazja Dabrowska

In this short film about universal desires, friendship, and brotherly love, we meet Daniel, a burgeoning poet at a summer camp for young people with Down syndrome.

    Guaxuma (France/Brazil)
    dir. Nara Normande

A breathtaking blend of animation techniques transport us to the world of the director’s coastal childhood, where hippie-born kids grow up among parties, adventures, and friendships, making bittersweet memories along the way.

    Skip Day (United States/United Kingdom)
    dir. Ivete Lucas, Patrick Bresnan
In award-winning short Skip Day, a group of graduating high-schoolers take a trip to the seaside, holding themselves suspended on the precipice of the adult world and the challenges it will present for just a brief, idyllic moment.

    Quebramar (Brazil)
    dir. Cris Lyra

Through music and conversation on a Brazilian beach, the protagonists of Quebramar construct a safe environment for each other to exist without judgement, where their love for each other glows like the sunshine in which they bathe.
