Among the IDFAcademy selection are several participants who earned their place in the workshop by winning an IDFA Award with their documentary projects at industry events all over the world. Several other IDFA Award winners will attend IDFA Forum in November.
Following three IDFA Awards handed out at industry events in Guadalajara, Kolkata and Prague, announced last March, a further six awards were given out over the Summer. The winning directors and producers will get the chance to present themselves and their projects at the IDFAcademy or IDFA Forum during the festival next month. An overview of all winners can be found below.
During the Nuevas Miradas event at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba, director Francisco Marise and producer Fihama Martinez Cowley were awarded for their documentary project War Album. Both will attend the IDFAcademy.
At DocMontevideo in July, The Champion of the World was chosen as the most promising of the 13 project pitched by filmmakers dfrom Latin America. Directors Federico Borgia and Guillermo Madeiro and producer Pancho Magnou Arnábal will attend IDFA Forum. A special mention was given to Dreams of my Father, earning director Juan Ignacio Fernández Hoppe an IDFAcademy pass.
During the 8th edition of the Durban FilmMart in July, director Sihle Hlophe and producer Sarah Basyouny were awarded for their project Lobola: A Bride's True Price. Both will attend IDFAcademy. IDFA Forum access was given out at the Sarajevo Film Festival to director Árpád Bogdán and producer Laszlo Jozsa for their pitch of Ghetto Balboa, and at CNEX in Taiwan to director Nan Chen for Singing in the Wilderness.
