In Europe, the phenomenon of the travelling cinema only existed in the early years of cinema, when the movie theatre was still a fairground attraction; soon, most cities and villages had their own cinemas or clubs that rented their own films. In movie-mad India, Mr. Battu still operates such a touring cinema, taking the ‘Bollywood‘ melodramas to the people. The elderly Battu is an idealist who thinks you can change people by showing them films. He travels to the most remote villages to stir up these archaic places with his movies. In the colourful film WANDERKINO DER TRÄUME, we travel with Mr. Battu for a while. He pays a visit to the Indian star actor Uttam Mohanty on the set, and takes him to a village full of enthusiastic film fans.
