Festival history
Documentary film about the environmental conflict taking place at the Surire salt flat, 4,300 metres above sea level in the Chilean altiplano, involving the local indigenous community, two private companies and the state. Declared a Natural Monument in 1983, the salt flat is currently being intensively exploited by a mining company, and a geothermal project is about begin that will irreversibly affect the area's ecological environment. Through observational style and strong photographic and sound work, the film will depict the silent life of Surire and its solitary characters, while using the industrial activity and its environment impact as a backdrop.
